Historique[modifier]

Dear Anne and Everybody,

As the Swiss Intro and Facilitator Practice in July are approaching, it's time that we finalised the language to use on publicity and learning materials. For the sake of clarity, I'd like to ensure that we use the same phrases everywhere in order to avoid any confusion in describing this work in French.

Dominic and I (with Saskia's blessing) have decided we would like to use the phrases:

justice restaurative

and

cercles restauratifs

(and NOT cercles de justice restaurative, or cercles the reconciliation or any other terms)

We know that this term sounds strange and new in French, but bearing in mind that "restorative circles" means nothing to most English people, we are happy to use a strange new sounding term to describe what we do.

I have noticed that on the nvc-europe website the term "cercles de justice restaurative" is used. We would like to avoid using this phrase (in the same way we avoid using "restorative justice circles"), and just use "cercles restauratifs" instead (which for clarity can be described as "une forme" or "un modele de justice restaurative"?).

Dieudonne, do you know who is in charge of this nvc-europe website? Can you let me know how I can go about changing this description?

I also saw that the 4 days Facilitator Practice was described as a "formation". We deliberately avoid describing what we do as a training or workshop. We see it rather as creating and supporting a community of learner facilitators as they begin restorative systems in their own communities, and we like to think of us all as learners.

We do not want to give the impression that there is a training that you can do in order to "qualify" as an RC facilitator. We want to avoid people thinking that this is a new professional category like mediator or psychologist or CNVC trainer. The most important part of learning to facilitate is not how many days someone spends in an Intro or FP, but rather it is about being part of an ongoing restorative system and to be facilitating real circles on a regular basis. Dominic sometimes says that people usually start to become more familiar with the process after facilitating their first 40 or so real circles.

I would therefore also like to change the wording on nvc-europe and avoid using the word "formation" on all future documents.

Would you all be willing to send us all publicity material and documents at least two weeks before you publish it, so that we can check the wording?

Saskia, can you also cc this to Nicolas, as I think he is also working with Anne on this. (Do correct me if I'm wrong about this.)

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
